Club Season Overview

The club season is the cornerstone of our organization, providing players with a structured environment to compete, grow, and achieve their volleyball goals. It’s designed to foster skill development, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of the game.

Season Timeline: The club season runs from January through May for most teams, with some teams extending their season through July to compete at Nationals. This schedule includes a balance of practices, tournaments, and skill-building sessions tailored to the team’s goals.

Open House and Tryouts: The journey begins in October and November with our open house sessions. These events allow players and families to learn about our program, meet the coaches, and experience the training environment. Tryouts follow shortly after, during which players are evaluated and placed on teams that align with their skill level and development potential.

Practices and Tournaments: Teams practice 2-3 times per week with a focus on refining individual skills, enhancing team strategies, and preparing for competition. Practices are designed to challenge players while fostering improvement and confidence. Teams compete in local, regional, and national tournaments, offering players valuable experience against a variety of opponents.

Offseason Opportunities: The volleyball journey doesn’t stop when the season ends. During the offseason, we offer camps, clinics, and lessons to help players stay engaged, maintain their skills, and prepare for the next season. These programs provide players with an opportunity to target specific areas of improvement and continue their growth year-round.

Preparing for the Season

Before the season begins, we offer pre-tryout clinics specifically designed to help high school players sharpen their skills, boost confidence, and get a feel for what to expect at tryouts. These clinics focus on advanced skill work, position-specific training, and high-intensity drills that mimic the competitive environment, preparing your daughter both physically and mentally for tryouts.

Our open houses provide a valuable opportunity for your daughter to become familiar with our program, meet our coaching staff, and participate in evaluations. During these sessions, coaches assess players' technical abilities, court awareness, and overall potential. Open houses also give you and your daughter a chance to learn about our training philosophy and team structure, ensuring she understands what is expected before tryouts begin.

Finally, our tryouts give players the chance to compete for one of our 13 high school-aged teams. During tryouts, your daughter will be evaluated on her performance in position-specific drills, gameplay, and overall court presence. Our coaches carefully assess each player's technical skills, physical abilities, and teamwork to find the best fit for her.

Open House & Tryout Process FOR THE CLUB SEASON

Your daughter’s journey into club volleyball at Sky begins with our open house and tryout process, designed to evaluate her skills, introduce her to our program, and find the best team placement for her development.

Open House: Held in October and November, the open house sessions provide players with the chance to showcase their skills in a low-pressure environment while receiving feedback from our experienced coaches. During these sessions, parents and players also gain insight into our training philosophy, team structure, and season expectations. This step helps us assess where your daughter fits within the program and sets her up for success.

Tryouts: Following the open house, players participate in age-group tryouts. During tryouts, our coaching staff evaluates each player’s skills, attitude, and potential. The goal is to place players on teams where they will thrive, improve, and contribute meaningfully. We emphasize finding the right balance of challenge and opportunity to ensure every player has a rewarding experience.

Our Teams: Ages 10-18

We offer 33 teams across all age groups, providing players with opportunities to develop their skills and compete at the appropriate level:

  • 10s (3 Teams): Building volleyball fundamentals with a focus on technique and teamwork.

  • 13s & 14s (10 Teams): Advanced gameplay strategies and higher-level competition.
  • 15s & 16s (9 Teams): Refining skills with an emphasis on speed, strategy, and team dynamics.
  • 17s & 18s (4 Teams): Preparing for collegiate opportunities while competing at the highest level.

Team Levels Explained

We organize our teams to provide the right level of competition and development for each player. This ensures that every player has an opportunity to grow, contribute, and compete in an environment that matches their goals and commitment level. Here’s a breakdown of our team structure:

Gold Teams

Our Gold Teams compete at the highest level of club volleyball, regularly participating in regional qualifiers, elite-level tournaments, and USAV Nationals. These teams are designed for players who are ready to train and compete at an intense, elite level.

  • Training: Players commit to three practices per week, each focusing on advanced skill development, competitive gameplay strategies, and mental preparation for high-pressure situations. Practices emphasize the precision and speed required at the elite level, ensuring players are constantly challenged and improving.
  • Travel: Gold Teams travel extensively to compete in national qualifiers and premier events across the country. These tournaments provide exposure to top-level competition and opportunities to gain visibility with college scouts. Families should be prepared for travel commitments, including airfare, hotels, and extended tournament weekends.
  • Focus: Gold Teams prioritize developing players for college-level play by refining technical skills, mastering advanced strategies, and building resilience. Players learn how to perform under pressure, adapt to different opponents, and work cohesively as part of a high-performing team.

Blue Teams

Blue Teams are highly competitive and also aim to qualify for USAV Nationals. These teams focus on maintaining a strong balance between regional and national competition.

  • Training: Three practices per week focus on refining individual techniques, implementing advanced team strategies, and improving gameplay efficiency. Players are encouraged to push their limits while learning to communicate and execute as part of a cohesive unit. Training includes high-repetition drills, positional work, and match-specific scenarios to prepare for tournament play.
  • Travel: Blue Teams compete in a mix of in-state and select out-of-state tournaments. Out-of-state events are chosen to challenge players against strong competition while limiting travel demands. Parents can expect a few weekend trips within driving distance, along with one or two events requiring overnight stays.
  • Focus: Blue Teams aim to prepare players for success in high school and beyond. The focus is on consistent skill refinement, developing advanced decision-making on the court, and fostering a winning mindset. Players build confidence and resilience while learning how to compete at a high level.

National Teams

National Teams provide players with a strong level of competition while offering a slightly shorter and less demanding season. These teams focus on regional competition with select out-of-state tournaments to give players valuable experience without the same level of travel and time commitment as Gold or Blue teams.

  • Training: Two practices per week emphasize skill development, game awareness, and teamwork. Training sessions are structured to maximize player growth through high-repetition drills and competitive scenarios. While the schedule is less intensive, practices are designed to build consistency and prepare players for competitive matches.
  • Travel: National Teams primarily compete in local and regional tournaments, with one to two out-of-state events to provide exposure to higher levels of play. This limited travel schedule allows families to balance volleyball with other priorities while still offering valuable competitive opportunities.
  • Focus: National Teams focus on strengthening core skills, developing game strategies, and providing players with the tools to succeed at higher levels. These teams offer a competitive environment with an emphasis on maintaining balance and fostering a love for the game.

Regional Teams

Regional Teams are exclusively offered for players 12 and under, making them an excellent option for younger athletes who are looking to focus on skill development and in-state competition. These teams offer a lighter commitment level, perfect for players and families who prefer not to travel out of state or are just beginning their volleyball journey.

  • Training: Two practices per week focus on building a strong foundation of volleyball fundamentals, including passing, setting, hitting, and serving. Players will also work on court positioning, communication, and teamwork. Practices are designed to provide a fun, engaging environment while helping players improve their technical skills.
  • Travel: Regional Teams compete exclusively in in-state tournaments, eliminating the need for long-distance travel. Events are scheduled on weekends, allowing families to plan around other commitments.
  • Focus: Regional Teams emphasize skill development, game awareness, and teamwork in a supportive environment. These teams are perfect for players who want to improve their abilities, gain competitive experience, and build confidence without the demands of extensive travel or a long season.

Training and Development

Our approach focuses on creating an environment where your daughter can thrive on and off the court. We believe success is built through an intentional approach to development, where players grow not only as athletes but also as individuals. Our programs are designed to create an environment where your daughter can thrive through focused training, personalized guidance, and opportunities to overcome challenges.

Skill Development: We prioritize teaching the core fundamentals of volleyball, including passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and serving. These skills are reinforced through purposeful, high-repetition drills that promote consistency and improvement over time. Players are also introduced to strategic gameplay concepts, such as reading the court, anticipating opponents’ moves, and executing team strategies. Our goal is to develop technically sound, adaptable players who are prepared to compete at any level.

Physical Conditioning: Success on the court requires not just skill but the physical readiness to execute at a high level during matches. Through our on-court volleyball training, players develop the strength, agility, and endurance needed for success in game situations. Drills are designed to improve quickness, explosive movements, and jump height—all key components of volleyball performance. Reaction time and lateral movement are enhanced through dynamic, game-like scenarios that replicate the demands of competition.

Mental Resilience: The ability to handle pressure, stay focused, and learn from adversity is crucial for success in volleyball and life. We teach players how to manage their emotions during intense matches, maintain confidence through setbacks, and embrace challenges as opportunities to grow. Mental toughness is built through realistic scenarios in practice, helping players translate these skills into game situations.

Character Building: We aim to develop more than just athletes; we develop leaders. Our programs instill values such as integrity, grit, responsibility, and teamwork, equipping players with the tools they need to succeed beyond the court. Whether it’s leading by example during a tough game or supporting a teammate through challenges, players learn how to embody these principles in everything they do.

Experienced Coaching Staff: Our coaching staff is passionate about teaching the actions necessary to achieve results. They challenge players to push beyond their comfort zones while providing the guidance and support needed to overcome obstacles. With years of experience and a dedication to helping players succeed, our coaches ensure that every athlete emerges stronger, more confident, and better prepared for future challenges.

Offseason Opportunities

At Sky, we believe that a player’s development extends beyond the regular season. Our off-season opportunities are designed to keep your daughter engaged and continually progressing throughout the year, ensuring she remains sharp and well-prepared for the challenges of high school volleyball and beyond. Whether your daughter is looking to fine-tune specific skills, improve her overall performance, or prepare for a potential collegiate career, our off-season programs offer the structure and support she needs.

We offer a wide range of clinics and camps that are tailored to help high school players address key areas of development, such as:

Position-Specific Training: These specialized clinics allow players to focus deeply on the technical and strategic aspects of their position, whether they are setters, outside hitters, middle blockers, or liberos. With individualized attention from coaches, your daughter will gain a deeper understanding of her role and enhance her ability to contribute more effectively to her team.

Skill-Specific Clinics: These clinics target particular volleyball skills like serving, blocking, passing, or hitting. Players can hone specific areas of their game that need improvement or take their strongest skills to the next level. By breaking down each skill, we provide detailed, focused feedback to help players make significant strides in their performance.

Individual Lessons: For more personalized development, we offer one-on-one lessons where players receive direct feedback and customized drills to improve their technique. This is an excellent opportunity for your daughter to address areas she may want to refine, such as improving footwork, ball control, or decision-making under pressure. These individualized sessions ensure she can focus on her personal goals at her own pace.

Strength and Conditioning: While we do not currently offer on-site strength training, we partner with Team DRC, an elite volleyball-specific performance training facility. Team DRC helps players build the endurance, agility, and strength required for high-level competition, ensuring your daughter stays physically prepared for the upcoming season. This off-season work not only reduces the risk of injury but also boosts her athleticism, allowing her to perform at her best during the competitive season.

Mental and Tactical Training

In addition to the physical aspects, off-season programs at Sky emphasize the importance of mental preparation and tactical understanding. Players work on improving their volleyball IQ by learning to read the game better, anticipate opponents’ movements, and make quicker, smarter decisions during gameplay. We also focus on fostering mental toughness—teaching players how to handle pressure, maintain focus, and approach each match with the right mindset. These elements are crucial for high-level play and set the foundation for success in both high school and collegiate competition.

Flexibility and Year-Round Growth

Our off-season programs are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing players to participate at their own pace while still balancing other commitments. By continuing to engage in structured training throughout the year, your daughter will avoid long gaps in her development and stay ahead of the competition. These programs allow her to build on the foundation established during the season and continually work toward her volleyball goals.

Coaching Excellence

Our coaching staff brings an extensive background as former collegiate athletes and high-level coaches, offering a level of experience that directly benefits the training and development of every player. Their insight into the game helps shape not just technically sound players but well-rounded individuals. More importantly, our coaches are deeply invested in the growth of their players, both on and off the court, instilling values like teamwork, resilience, and discipline that extend far beyond volleyball.

We understand that great coaching requires constant evolution. That’s why we prioritize professional development, providing our staff with ongoing training and collaborative opportunities. This ensures they stay at the forefront of the game, incorporating the latest techniques and strategies to maximize your daughter’s potential.

Our mission is to challenge players to push their limits, foster leadership, and build confidence while cultivating a genuine love for the game. This is more than coaching—it’s mentorship, guidance, and a commitment to helping your daughter succeed as an athlete and as a person.
